Week 36: We're Soarin, Flyin'

Pop Culture

We rewatched High School Musical after watching The Greatest Showman, which 1) I did not know was a musical and 2) did not like.

HSM, however, is still so good, despite having some of the most cringe acting I’ve ever witnessed even for a DCOM, Hudgens’ awkward genius girl next door, namely.

Motherhood

Pregnancy-wise, this week feels more official. Like a hump that took forever to cross.

Also, because we’re in the expected birth month, things feel exciting again, less slow moving and unexpected. There’s a lot more “oh we can do that after the baby” and that means like, 3,-4 weeks from now, not 3-4 months.

Sleeping ins’t painful, but it is nonexistent.

My emotions range from excitement to frustration with the unknown.

I’m scared, but only because I can’t prepare myself for all scenarios. Everyone says “you’ll know when you’re contracting” and while I know thats probably the best answer they can give, and that’ they’re probably right, I still want something concrete.

Art

I went on a little bit of a MoMA bender to start my mornings, watching ~20-minute video on artists, followed by ~10 minutes of general internet researching.

Highlights: Ruth Asawa, very familiar with her work and continue to be inspired by the bridge of art and education and community. New to me, Jack Whitten, fascinated by the "I'm just gonna make my own materials" mentality which I need to adopt, somehow..

Win of the Day

Mentally, I’ve started forcing myself to have a “win of the day.” When you lose control of your body, mind, and energy, things, big or small should be celebrated. Laundry AND buying new flowers for the table. Work, AND a massive closet purge (felt really, really productive and satisfied after that one).
